Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A 14-year-old girl in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly raped and murdered by her 33-year-old cousin, Surjeet, hours after she tied him a rakhi during Rakshabandhan celebrations on August 9. The accused reportedly consumed alcohol that night before returning to the house where the girl was sleeping.
Surjeet allegedly raped the minor and then killed her, hanging her body from a noose to make it appear as a suicide. The girl’s father, who was asleep in another room, discovered her body the following morning and immediately informed the police.
Police officers noted blood stains at multiple locations in the house, indicating that the death was not a suicide. During their investigation, officials observed that Surjeet remained with the family and answered questions on their behalf, which raised suspicion about his involvement.
Auraiya Superintendent of Police Abhijeet Shankar confirmed that the girl’s body was sent for post-mortem, which established that she had been raped. Surjeet was taken into custody and confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, focusing on the sequence of events, the accused’s actions, and forensic evidence. Police have emphasized the importance of timely reporting in preventing and solving crimes against minors.
